About
Margherita Scalise is a theatre maker and dramaturg from Italy. She is currently based in Brussels and works between Belgium, Italy and elsewhere in Europe.
Her interest in the wide world of performing arts brought her to study theatre directing and, later, dramaturgy.
Margherita works as freelance dramaturg with several makers and choreographers. In 2023 she curated a weeklong introduction to performance dramaturgy in Bucharest.
From 2019 to 2024, she has been working with the dance company Ultima Vez and its founder Wim Vandekeybus as house dramaturg and artistic assistant.
Margherita always found fascinating the practices of other artists, and this led her to meet, among many others, Guy Cools, Eugenio Barba and Julia Varley, Katalin Trenscényi, Maja Hriešik, Merel Heering, Élise Simonet, Danae Theodoridou, Gabriele Vacis, Giovanni Covini and Davide Carnevali.
As a maker, Margherita is attracted by the relation between movement and text. Her main interests, at this moment, are the experiences of the senses, theologies, languages and art histories.
