What does society expect of me? And who would I be if I were to fulfil all expectations of myself?
The performance project FRUTTA FRESCA shows an open deconstruction process. Two performers who are read as southerners in Germany use choreography, physical theatre and language to appropriate several cultural stereotypes relating to Italians and appear on stage as ‘hyper-Italian’ drag figures. In search of their authentic being – their identity beyond external, culturally conditioned attributions – they partially shed their disguises over the course of the performance. Based on personal experiences and theoretical discourses, FRUTTA FRESCA attempts to performatively highlight the fine line between esteem, exoticisation and identity attribution.
